3/4 c white sugar
1/2 tea soda
1/2 tea vanilla
1/2 c butter

The shortening would be the butter. My gram always called any fat in a recipe the shortening. Like true shortbread cookies are made with butter as only fat. Or at least that is what I would think.;>
ReplyDeleteThis brought back memories. The shortening is the 1/2 cup butter. Butter and shortening and oleo and margarine were all interchanged back in the day. And the 5 cent bar was the regular sized candy bar, not a small bar.
